The prefilled U-500R Pen
is available in a 2-pen pack

The prefilled 3-mL U-500R Pen is administered SC, usually 2 or 3 times daily, approximately 30 minutes before meals.1,3
When writing a prescription for the U-500R Pen, the prescriber should include the amount of insulin prescribed (written in insulin units), timing of doses, and route of administration (SC). The prescriber should indicate “DO NOT SUBSTITUTE” on the prescription to prevent substitution of the U-500R Pen with the U-500R vial or another concentrated insulin without consulting the prescriber for dose verification and proper training on administration.
Patients should be counseled to dial and inject the prescribed number of units of insulin. When using the U-500R Pen, the dose window shows the number of units of insulin to be injected and therefore no dose conversion is required.4

Any pen compatible needle can be used to administer the dose with the U-500R Pen; however, BD pen needles are recommended.2
Compatible needles should be prescribed separately.
