Detailed Information

Teriparatide may transiently increase serum calcium and should be used with caution in those taking digoxin as hypercalcemia may predispose digitalis toxicity.1

Pharmacodynamic Effects of Digoxin

In a study of 15 healthy people, a single teriparatide dose did not alter the effect of digoxin on the systolic time interval from electrocardiographic Q-wave onset to aortic valve closure, a measure of digoxin’s calcium-mediated cardiac effect.1,2

Hypercalcemia and Digitalis Toxicity Risk

Sporadic case reports have suggested that hypercalcemia may predispose patients to digitalis toxicity.
