FORTEO® (teriparatide [rDNA origin] injection): Use With Digoxin
Forteo may transiently increase serum calcium and should be used with caution in those taking digoxin as hypercalcemia may predispose digitalis toxicity.
Teriparatide may transiently increase serum calcium and should be used with caution in those taking digoxin as hypercalcemia may predispose digitalis toxicity.1
Pharmacodynamic Effects of Digoxin
In a study of 15 healthy people, a single teriparatide dose did not alter the effect of digoxin on the systolic time interval from electrocardiographic Q-wave onset to aortic valve closure, a measure of digoxin’s calcium-mediated cardiac effect.1,2
